I have a complicated relationship with trends. I love seeing what’s new, but I don’t want a home that looks dated in eighteen months. So every year I make a short list of the shifts that feel less like fads and more like a natural next step — ideas I’d be happy to live with for a long time. Here’s mine for 2027.
1. Curves everywhere
Rounded sofas, arched mirrors, pedestal tables, bobbin details. After years of straight lines, curves feel softer and more welcoming. The easiest way in: swap one rectangular piece — a coffee table or mirror — for a round one.
2. Warmer neutrals
Stark white and cool grey are giving way to colours with a little more warmth: oatmeal, mushroom, clay, putty and warm taupe. These shades are calming but never cold, and they make natural wood glow.
3. Vintage and second-hand pieces
I’m so glad this one is here to stay. A home with a few old pieces — a worn armchair, an antique side table, a vintage rug — instantly feels more personal and less like a catalogue. It’s better for the planet, too.

4. Statement lighting as sculpture
Pendants and lamps are being chosen as artwork: oversized paper shades, sculptural brass, handmade ceramic bases. If you want one big gesture this year, make it a light.
5. Rooms with a purpose
The open-plan everything era is evolving. People are carving out small, dedicated spaces again — a reading nook, a coffee corner, a tiny home office behind a curtain. Even in open spaces, rugs and lighting are being used to create little ‘rooms within rooms’.

The best trends are the ones that make a home feel more like you, not more like everyone else.

How I’d try them
- Start with accessories and textiles before furniture.
- Choose one trend per room, not five.
- If you still love it after a season, invest in a bigger piece.
